Overall, the software is well designed and performs well. I was disappointed with three matters, as follows. (1) Some of the items flagged for review and correction in the Federal return were not mistakes I made but were, rather, failures of the software to record dialogue information correctly. This should not happen, and your careful attention to these corrections would provide guidance for fixing bugs. (2) Fixing bugs in the Form 1116 took until mid-March 2006. This is way too late; there is not excuse for not correcting these bugs much earlier. (3) On the Sign page for Federal taxes, the program prompts the need for two PINs. The software does NOT make clear that one of these must be supplied by the IRS, while the second may be any 5 digit number. Providing clear instructions here (ordinarily provided elsewhere) would save a lot of frustration and grief.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

Overall, the software is comprehensive and easy to use. However, the cost to purchase is quickly becoming prohibitive, hence I will be looking for other less expensive options for 2026 taxes. One continuing glitch: Mineral royalties are a passive activity that for years, the Deluxe software incorrectly assigns as a "non-passive" activity. An override is necessary to remedy which then prohibits Federal eFile.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used H&R Block Deluxe for 8 years. I'm very happy with everything except the software update process. For the last 3 years the software tells me there is an update available. I accept the update. It seems to go through the process, but does not, and then tells me again it needs the update. I go to Help and find a work-around. I continue to use this program because I trust the tax calculation, filing, payment, and refund process.
