The product is good at the basics of tax preparation. I would have given it 5 stars, but this year I ran into an unusual tax situation that the program didn't handle very well. It dealt with calculating underpayment penalties using the annualized income method. The program wasn't able to discern the difference between filing two months before the April 15 due date and filing on the due date. The only option for me to correctly calculate the underpayment penalty was to override the calculation which then would have prevented me from e-filing which I really preferred doing.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

Very good software, with one exception with regards to Stock transactions. The software is not specific enough to determine which box on the 1099 is required for the box in the software questioning. Some of the software questions did not match the 1099 exactly and took a while to figure out what the software was looking for.

I've been using the same product for over seven years. I'm satisfied with everything, but I haven't noticed any significant changes in the service compared to seven years ago with the recent introduction of AI. I believe the information of customers who use the same product every year is already stored or can be added to leverage the power of AI. However, I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to utilize that feature yet.

Cons: Hard to import documents

I have a foreign tax credit every year from a regulated investment company. Every year the software inputs “Regulated” as the country of origin on my Form 1116 and “RC” as the county code. Every year I get a notice from the IRS that my foreign tax credit was rejected for an incorrect country of origin and country code. I tried to override the fields on the 1116 form but the software didn’t allow me to override the information.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
