Amended Return Issue

Had to make a minor amendment to my 2025 Return which would not change our refund, but the refund amount went to 0. Cannot find out why.

Problem w REturn

I completed return for 1/26 filing but was rejected because an update was necessary. After update done I sent my return in only to discover the next day that the "update" process wiped out the taxability of all my retirement income except s/s while reporting their total. This increased my refund from 6k to 14,514 Took over 2 weeks for new updates to allow an amended return to reflect reduced refund which was accepted BUT now your software is claiming I owe $7909 to fds who of course never paid the clearly erroneous larger amt. I should be be getting a refund NOT paying $7909 extra !!!
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was happy with the end result. None the less some info on RMD be helpful. Example: If you add this on your income do this on your tax area.
I did request help with one of your associates on RMD, and her answer was "I do not know what RMD is" and she suggested to get help from AI.

Not good. Can't tell if my returns have been filed or not. Don't understand the menu asking me to clear up last years state tax refund (which was not taxable). couldn't get past it. Many references made in your instructions were unclear. As in go to xxxxxxx but xxxxxxx was not on the menu or header.

Good for basic returns

I've used this product for several years and I am generally satisfied with it. However, this year I encountered a problem with the software for the Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit) that initially prevented me from filing taxes electronically. The problem was this: I needed to maker two separate entries on this form, one for a specific country and one for a mutual fund. For the latter, I needed to specify RIC (Registered Investment Company) as the source of the income and tax credit. Because of H&R Block's software glitch, I was unable to specify RIC for the second entry because RIC wasn't included in the drop-down menu of countries. After working for two hours on this problem, trying different ways to input the data, I learned that the order of the entries is important. I was only able to solve the problem only by selecting RIC for the FIRST entry and then selecting the specific country for the SECOND entry. The reverse order doesn't work.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

Some issue with items not within my control.

The software stated I may need an 8606 form but I had to print it out, fill it in with a pen. Then said I couldn't file electronically. This was incorrect info.
I don't remember where, but, during the final audit and review it stated I had to fix a number that was calculated by the software and not my entry. If I didn't correct it or if I corrected it manually I had to file by mail.
I had problems printing until I found a box that said check to force scaling.
Before I submit return I am holding off for any future updates to software.

Easy to use, even with all the new tax laws

I've been using H&R Block tax software for many years. The product continues to be easy to use and reasonably priced. I appreciated the new feature in the State software that allowed me to upload PDF's of supporting documents. I expect that I will continue to use the software for years to come.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

not so reliable

I've used this software for several years with no problems. However, this time their was a major error that came up with an overly inflated refund amount. Fortunately I was skeptical, investigated the entire return (printed out) and I think the error happened importing the prior year's return. For my second attempt I entered everything manually and I'm confident the result is correct. Lots of time involved.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
