The Deluxe + State is perfect for our needs. It's easy enough for me at 68 to still do my own taxes which saves me a lot of money. Thanks for the great product.

The software did not realize I only have one mortgage that was sold during the year. It combined the two 1098 forms sent by the two lenders who sold and bought the mortgage. This caused the software to add the two outstanding balance amounts and reduce my deductible mortgage interest.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I've been using the Block software since the mid-90s and it has generally served me well. But my perception is that in recent years the programs; and particularly the state program; have become less intuitive. There seems to be an increasing number of cosmetic changes each year that leave me desiring the way it was before. The help features also seem less helpful. I've worked in computers since they began, and one of the early premises of programming was to not change something that works for the sake of changing it, while another said never remove a capability from a program without an improved replacement to accomplish that task. Today, slicker programs seem to be a requirement, and some of that is evident to me with Block. But I'm an old guy!
I've been using HR Block tax software for over 20 years. During that time, very little has changed in the look and feel or how the software function. It needs a makeover with nicer graphics, more direct references and more assistance. Heres an example I experienced this year. The tax software told me that I had over contributed to my HSA but instead of hyper linking me to the form I needed to complete, it gave a series of printed menu directions that took me to a generic menu of forms. It would have been super easy to hyperlink the new form in the "error" pop up I got, but not that user friendly. Also I've also had issues where the running refund calculation goes down by a significant amount without any explanation. That's not the kind of user experiences I'm will to pay for, maybe if that was the way the free forms function but not "Deluxe".
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It gets the job done, for the most part. After answering all the questions, I still had to go back and fix a few things manually.
