Normally I submit my return a week before the due date but was away and tried to submit it the day before, 4/14. Unfortunately it would not send even after a dozen attempts over 4/14 and 4/15 due to errors at their end. As a result I had to print and submit it through the mail at the post office 30+ minutes away. As a result I lost about 4-5 hours of my time due a software failure that should have taken 60 seconds or less. I will likely switch next year after 20+ years of use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The tax software on my PC was unable to connect to H&R Block servers on tax day. I waited on the phone for 50 mins and then was told to file on paper in case the problem could not be resolved. That's fine if you have a Printer, Checks, Stamps and can take off work to getting them. I took a chance and it finally work at 6pm. Very stressful!

H&R Block is still my preferred software for taxes. I like all the included benefits (free e-file, support if needed, audit risk calculator, etc). Though it can get rather time-consuming when delving into itemized expenses. It would be helpful to know ahead of time whether it's worth spending the time itemizing deductions. For example, at the beginning of a section, say something like, "The standard deduction is $XX. If you think your itemized expenses exceed this, continue with the itemized worksheets. Otherwise, claim the standard deduction and move on." Knowing the standard deduction ahead of time would let me know whether I'm in the ballpark, way over the minimum, or not even close. Currently, it just says "Help me determine which to use (standard vs. itemized)", and then walks you through all the worksheets to calculate total expenses before pointing out, "Here's the standard deduction. Your expenses are $YY. It looks like your itemized expenses are less than the standard deduction. You should probably take the standard deduction." Well, no kidding!
Also, the explanations and help bubbles, while more vague than I'd like, have always been at least a little helpful. This year, however, they changed the wording and it made things much more confusing and unclear. Definitely a step backwards in my opinion.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

I have used this app for years, but this time it would not connect to the HR server in order to e-file. I took all the steps suggested in the help, but it still would not connect.
I ended up mailing my return into the IRS. But to make matters worse, the app gave me an error message , but I received an email later saying that it had indeed gone through. I sure I will get an audit now since the IRS will have an eFile and a mailed version as well.
This was on tax day so I had no choice but to mail the return. Not pleased because I paid for e-filing

There are a lot of things that happen with the tax calculation that are not well explained. The State of VA tax software proclaims that you get a higher rate of a deduction if you are over 65, however there is nowhere in the program that asks for your age, and it never comes up in the questions or shows the higher deduction being applied. This should be made more obvious.
