After installing the software and trying to let it do its own updates, it repeatedly failed to connect to its server, suggesting that the computer wasn't connected to the internet, or that maybe a firewall was blocking its access. Neither of these issues were the case. Instead, I later learned that the software cannot update itself unless it is installed on your C: drive.
Really.
None of the error messages mention this. I can't be the only person who keeps their software on a different drive from the OS, can I? Why is this even an issue?
After resolving that, I was a victim of the tax day downtime. I had to wait around 4 hours for the servers to come back up in order to successfully complete my e-file. Did I mention that the state e-file fee is re-posted each time you attempt and fail to e-file?
Strongly considering looking at other options for 2024.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

This software is ok if you know a few things about tax law, and can follow along since they don't supply enough support within the software. Now with this outage on the last day to file I will no longer use this software. All we get is you can print and mail it in. So tired of these companies thinking we are too lazy to change. Not me!

It seems no one at H&R Block has a 4K resolution monitor? The screen fonts in the software are ridiculously tiny, and users are not able to adjust font size. Same problem last year, too.

The software itself is very user friendly and greatly assists walking me through every aspect of my return. My only complaint is the way the residential energy credit is put together. Part of that is the way the credit is written and partly is tough to keep up with the nonsensical needless changes to the law that has to be represented in the software. Otherwise, a strong A-!
I completed my return the night of 4/14 and proceeded to e-file and pay my balance due electronically. But ... Block's system was down and did not work on 4/14 or 4/15. THIS IS INEXCUSEABLE!!! How do you allow your system to fail on the most important filing day of the tax season???? Total incompetence!! I have used Block's Tax Cut software for 20+ years, but ... NEVER AGAIN!!! Take my advice .... DO NOT TRUST Tax Cut. It will fail when you most need it. I will use a competitor next year.

Overall, the program works fine with some issues. You can create a 1099 within the software and submitted. You have to go to an outside source to fill out and submit a 1099. By mistake I imported a dividend statement twice from one institution and the software did not recognise the error. It doubled up my dividends and interests. I had to manually go in and delete the second entries. Sometimes in the interview, if you make an entry that you later want to correct, it’s difficult to do so from the interview area. You have to open up the whole form, find this specific entry, make deletions there and then return to the interview.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
