I had to send in a paper copy of my Iowa return a day late and I'm sure I'll have to pay a penalty. Your system was down for 6 hours on tax day, April 15th and when it came back up, I was able to send my Federal and Minnesota return Electronically, BUT it refused to try and send my State return for Iowa !!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ive used HR Block Federal and State software for years. This year there was a glitch on the worst possible days April 14th and 15th. On their website there was no mention of it and on the Internet you could find posts about the bad gateway, but no offers of help until late in the day Monday the 15th.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

I purchased the deluxe software, and when attempting to efile the software would constantly give the error "bad gateway". Apparently everyone that purchased this software had the same problem, and the system was down for approximately 19 hours, the day before tax day.
People that used the free software did not have an issue.
Conclusion : never buy hrblock "deluxe" software ever again.

The software gets better each year. Only complaint is sometimes you are referred to an IRS or State worksheet that is mind boggling to an average person. Ideally all worksheets are handled through questions in the software.
