We don't have a State Tax, the error messages after repeatedly asking about State Tax is a flaw. Last minute issues with filing a return and third party charges to pay my tax bill are a complete joke.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

Why warning on the review page . Just auto complete the info that has been input from the 1099r why do the filers have to repeat the same numbers that have been input already . Also the question are a bit misleading yes no or both?

I’m a long term user of HR Block tax software and generally like it. This year I had two problems. First was a paid upgrade to Premium that didn’t properly install. Second was the server crash that happened while I was attempting to submit. While I understand that glitches happen, there was zero communication about the server issue for almost 24 hours leaving customers with no idea if it was their own computer, router or software and panicking about whether taxes would meet the filing deadline.

We are not yet in a state that is in the pilot program for IRS tax preparation software. I purchased the H&R Block software again this time because of familiarity and it is good quality software. It is just way too expensive.

Attempts to e-file failed 4 separate times on April 15. Software message indicated I had a connection problem, but all other software was communicating perfectly with the internet. Since it was April 15, I'm guessing the Block servers were just overwhelmed. Due to the deadline, I then filed paper copies of my Federal return. Late on the 15th I then received a message that my e-file return had been filed and accepted by the IRS. Seems to confirm my suspicion about server capacity.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It all went great until I got 2 errors from the final review. Something about not taking out enough money for retirement and/or contributing to much to an HSA. Well, I’m not retired and I definitely didn’t put in anywhere near the maximum amount for the HSA. However, not knowing anything about these errors or the form that it referred to caused me to spend several hours trying to figure out what was going on. It’s not a good feeling to get questionable errors that you can’t fix, especially when it comes to doing your taxes.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
