Poor service, server down on Tax Day without promptly public notice. I have to spent many hours trying to submit my tax return, so frustrating and disappointed.

I have been using H & R Block software for the last 10 years to do my taxes. I typically buy both the Federal and the State version. Set up is very quick and it imports the preceding year's tax return easily. Working through the return is straightforward if you have assembled all the required documentation ahead of time, especially if you have done taxes before. There are a few interview questions where the interface could be a bit clearer, but overall, I give it high marks for helping me through the process. I plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

Spent more than 24 hours trying to e-file with error message every time. Had to go to fedex to print federal and state forms and send via certified mail. Wasted so much time and money because of broken system. Will move to different option next year.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

When I realized in February that I would owe the IRS, I decided to wait until April 14th to file. Unfortunately, when I clicked submit, I received a gateway error. I wasted 3. hours trying again and investigating. I gave up and tried again on the 15th. Since I still got the gateway error, I decided to print and mail my forms. I used the forced service to pay my federal taxes which charged nearly 1% more than the ones suggested by the IRS. Luckily, I saw the submission issues were fixed in the afternoon so I could e-file rather than having to rush out to UPS.

I have used H&R Block tax program for many years. The only thing frustrating this year was that I had to try many times to get the file to transmit. I should have done my taxes earlier, but this is something HRB should have anticipated and planned for.
