I used H&R tax software for many years, although it gets job done, its help context did not help at all. When I want to figure out tax terminologies and see examples, I have to google to get help.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

H&R Block Has Given Me New Respect For TurboTax

I thought I hated Intuit, then I tried this software. 1099s are a nightmare - it throws fits over "errors" in downloaded forms. It marked the name of my bank as an error!? It flagged an error in my downloaded W-2. Energy credits were a nightmare. It couldn't accept the fact that I put in solar panels, but not new energy efficient door or windows. It said those fields were not allowed to be 0. Seriously!? The interview steps were not as clearly worded as TurboTax and the overall user interface was more awkward. Just a poorly designed and error-ridden piece of software all around. NEVER AGAIN.

On April 14 & 15 the program would not accept any returns! Message said ‘gateway errors’. Hold time was insane, problem was not fixed and we were forced to print and mail. Super frustrating!! How can we trust you?

I tried for hours to file my taxes on APR 15 and kept getting error messages because you didn't have enough servers for the demand. You were trending on all the media outlets and downdetector, meanwhile, turbotax users had no problems.

When I checked for errors, the program was confusing and gave virtually no info or suggestions about what was needed when I got a message saying I needed to add additional info for my RMD.
