This is the first year I purchased the program online as opposed to the cd that had been mailed out. Installation was fairly easy, but the help sections of the program itself were a bit challenging in my opinion. When I need help, I don't want to be forced to speak with a computer generated assistant, rather I would like the opportunity to speak with a professional. Otherwise, I would have taken my taxes to a pro in the first place.
The e-filing did not work. We ended up having to mail in our tax filing. This was very troubling. I tried four times to e-file and it just would not go through no matter what I tried.
Prior versions of this software were very buggy - often closing unexpectedly, requiring you to save pretty much after every entry. This was fixed and it made a huge difference. I switched from TurboTax because TurboTax requires you to download all your information through their servers and their privacy statement indicates they can share it with other companies - a nonstarter for me. This does not.
I was unable to e-file, Federal & State when I needed to the most and 1 of 4 submissions of e-file.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Tax software is not needed for most people. If it was not for your lobbying, the government could just send me a check or invoice. The new standard tax deduction make your software even less needed. Each year, I do not include anything that hasn't already been reported to the IRS.
