This program is very difficult to navigate. I have done taxes professionally for the past 3 years and never had this much difficulty. You can't drill down and go to the input screen to change wrong information. I filed and the return was rejected 5 times cause the Healthcare recipient name a percentage wouldn't stay in the program. Not happy.
This is my third year using this software after switching from the other main brand. I have no plans for going back.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overall horrible experience

Biggest (and most critical) issue came at e-filing. Constant server errors when trying to e-file. Never said it worked. Did get an email later that IRS accepted Federal return, but SW still thinks I haven't ever submitted. This is making it impossible to e-file my State return (since federal has to be submitted first). It has (maybe??) but SW doesn't know. So now I'm stuck. Otherwise the interface and interviews were just very bad. Such poor guidance, and I've been doing my own taxes for 25 years, using TurboTax, etc. I'll never use this again
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

the software has clear instructions and is very easy to run.
I have been using this software for taxes for years! I love that it brings forward from last years info. Easy to use. The only drawback was when I changed laptops and couldn't seem to get the previous year's data to upload to the new laptop correctly.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

It's ok

I've used this software for several years in a row now and it's ok, not great. It's kind of weird in some ways. 1) There is no way at all to see your actual finished tax return inside the software. Sure, you can click on Forms and select 1040 but what you get is a lengthy working copy of the 1040 with a bunch of extra stuff on it and not what the actual form 1040 will look like. You have to print a hard copy of the return or print it to a PDF to see the actual completed form. 2) At the end when you run the Final Review, if everything looks good the software will display the message Maximum Refund Guaranteed! even when you owe money. So it's like the software developer hasn't even bothered to look at everything the software is doing. 3) Verification of e-filing a return can be quirky. For example this time I got an email that my return was rejected so I went back into the software, checked the status which showed "rejected", and then looked at the rejection report. I fixed the error and resent it. About 10 minutes later I got a new email from H&R saying my return had been accepted by the IRS and to check the status in the tax software. However, the status will no longer update in the softwate. Click on Check Status and it either runs and runs for several minutes and then freezes up or displays a messgae that "your software" (ha ha, not mine it's H&R Block's) cannot connect to the server. The time of day doesn't seem to matter. Morning, noon, or evening it says the same thing. 4) There is not a function to print an envelope. That would be nice to be able to print the IRS or state address and your return address on an envelope. Especially since that info is already contained within the software. 5) When something needs to be updated in the software, like for the Federal return, H&R Block doesn't tell you what's in the update. Is it a bug fix? Was something not calculating or totaling correctly? Is it something minor that will not affect my 26 page tax return that I just completed and printed out four days ago? 6) Other. Even after I buy and register the software, H&R Block will keep sending me emails trying to entice me to buy their software. I mean, that does not inspire a lot of confidence in their software programming ability if they can't get this part right.
Fortunately, neither the IRS nor my state have found problems with my successfully completed returns I've sent in. So that's certainly a plus for H&R Block. If this were an issue I wouldn't be using their software at all.
As far as recommending the software to a freind (a question to complete this review form), I'm going to check Yes since yes and no are the only choices. But I would tell a friend it's good but try other software too and see what they like best.
I would recommend this to a friend!
