Poor software cues regarding entering PIN numbet

The software doesn’t lead you through where to enter the Federal IRS PIN number. So my original submitted to the IRS was rejected. The rejected report showed where to enter the pin and I refiled and it was accepted. Why doesn’t the software include this step in an easy to find manner?

Does the Job for a Great Price

Overall, very satisfied with the H&R Block product. In general, very easy to use and chocked full of useful information for help on just about any taxation issue. Only part that needs improvement is the section where charitable donations are entered. Very rudimentary in its application and difficult to use when changes to the list are required. You may also run out of lines for entering charitable organizations and have to lump everything else into an "All Others" entry.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

Generally Quite Good, But...

Software worked well except for entering a credit for foreign taxes paid on passive income from one ADR and a few international ETFs. This should've been easy but was a time consuming mess. Finally succeeded after far too much time and effort. H&R Block should fix this.

First Time Problems

I always e-file both federal and state together. This year after entering my credit card info for state filing, then selecting file; the software advised that I have to update before e-filing. So I do that by selection the prompt. I get back into the filling section only to have to enter my credit card again. My Mastercard was billed twice to e-file my state return. Why not advise to update before billing a credit card? This is frustrating!

Makes taxes fairly easy

I've been using H&R Block tax software for years and have found it quite easy to use. With few exceptions, the interview takes you through all the asinine tax laws and helps where it can. I won't go into a tirade on the ridiculous complications of them.
I did find the entering of the Qualified Charitable Deduction very tedious. I could not figure out how to enter my QCD and had to call to get help. It took the person quite a while to figure out how to enter it. But he did and we got it done. Hopefully, next year they will have an interview that takes care of this.

Linux version needed

Works even though complicated for IRA distributions, BUT:
Linux versions are sorely needed because Windows 10 will soon be unsupported by Microsoft and many PCs cannot install Windows 11, causing a very expensive machine upgrade expense for those millions of users who do not have the latest computers. Even Windows 10 is a royal pain to maintain due to the endless stream of updates that are tedious to install and often cause problems. Since switching to Linux I rarely use Windows anymore. If H&R Block does not make Linux versions of their tax software (or that at least run under the WINE conversion framework in Linux, which they presently will not do) then I will have no choice but to stop buying H&R Block software in the future.
