OK program, not as good as bfore

several glitches made this years program problematic. instructions on several action were vague, did not automatically correct for senor deduction & kept locking up when trying to submit to IRS
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents

The software is terrible

For over a month I've waited on updates and when I finally filed my return it was rejected due to a software issue which H & R Block won't correct and issue an update for another 8 days. This is maddening. If you had flawed and incomplete software, why did you sell it to customers??? I won't use H & R software again

Still can't get Michigan tax correct

In a 2/22/24 Freepress article the H&R spokesman claimed the software was corrected to capture the new law ontaxing pensions. But today 3/9/24 I was unable to get the software to give the proper deduction for my 97 year old mother-in-law. Her tax calculation should not have been effected by the new law.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Crash, crash, crash

The title says it all. I received a 1099-B that had 770 transactions. As I verified each transaction, the software crashed 3 times. I finally resorted to saving the file every 4 or 5 transactions just to be safe, since I got tired of having to reverify transactions made after the last auto save that were lost do to the crash. I also had issues with importing my investment data using the import function. It took multiple times before all was included. Other than that, the software performed reasonably well. However, I would only recommend to friends with more modest investment transaction quantities.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

ANOTHER year of botched installer/updaters

I've purchsed H&R/Bl Deluxe for 10 years. I continue to find it preferable to T/Tax. I also refuse to file "in the cloud", online, etc - I insist that my filing and info be stored on my own computer...at least until I find a company that cares enough about data security to offer ABSOLUTE safety of said info. Maybe if the Board of Directors kept their personal/financial info in the SAME database mine (and 10's of millions of others) was in, they'd concern themselves with security. Installing the yearly program varies - most years it's pretty simple to achieve. What DOESN'T work - and NEVER HAS - is the updating, which is invariably necessitated by the endless bickering over tax law that makes it impossible for ANY tax-software company to write/sell a completely accurate version, right up to tax day. EVERY SINGLE TIME I start the program, I am offered the SAME update, to which I agree to install. It attempts it, starts up the program...but has NEVER ONCE IN TEN YEARS actually updated the program - in EVERY SINGLE CASE, I've had to locate, download, and manually install the update before I'm allowed to e-file. This is a COLOSSAL FAIL. Importing financial information from where my investments are based is also an ENORMOUS plus, as it's invariably quite extensive and would take many hours to do. Unfortunately, finding/accessing/importing it is often challenging, despite my being attached to major/mainstream investment companies like Morgan Stanley et al.; and also requires hours of review to ensure accuracy, which should NOT be necessary considering it's electronically transferred directly from the companies to the software. I find the "interview" process to be comparatively painless, accurate, and thorough, as is the ability to view & print forms. The e-file process is also straightforward.

Practically every step in the software has a tutorial for any items that come up. You are able to determine without a doubt whether or not it applies to your situation. The “reality” check at the end of process is another safeguard against audits.
