Have been using HR Block Deluxe for years now. It does exactly what’s needed to do your taxes each year.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Some later updates deleted some of my income data

Odd thing happened this year for the first time ever. There are normally several program updates from Jan thru April of the product (Not their fault, blame Congress for late changes during Christmas Tree bill season). The last update in March or first update in April (before April 10) caused a loss of supplemental income data (retirement income) and some itemized data. I had to re-input that data. Despite that I still recommend the product over Turbotax. Because of this, I downgraded the overall rating of the product to 2 stars from 4. The program should NOT drop previously saved data ! I did NOT test the import of stock transactions this year but in the past, it has been somewhat difficult. And you have to verify each record imported (very time consuming). Better to present a scrollable list to print out or save a file to do that for manual checking. That said, they do let you lump transactions together to reduce this (because the IRS allows it). I hope that is improved for next year.
Overall design of HR Block software is excellent. However, I experienced aborts at 3 or 4 places when simply clicking an option. After restarting the software, the program repeatedly bombed at the same point. Sometimes rebooting the computer helped, but usually I had to figure out a workaround to continue. Very frustrating - seriously considering Turbo Tax. (iMac [Intel] with latest OS.) Was also frustrated by softwares insistence that the data be saved in the Documents folder. A return stored in the path I've used for a decade seemed to be inaccessible to the Block software.
Required me to allocate capital gains income to myself and wife separately on state (Iowa) forms. This was already done on the federal return, had to enter it manually on state.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Missing previous actions when downloading 2021

I had problems getting the 2021 taxes downloading to 2022. It left a lot out and I had to go back to the 2021 and copy or add the info myself. Never before happened. It was supposed to save time but it cost me a headache and a lot longer than ever before. I can’t give the best as all other years.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents

Never did figure out how to add an attachment to my State return. It automatically asked for one, which I did, but wasn't given the option to add another one that was required.
Cons: Hard to import documents

Good software, get's the job done

The software is OK. The search function could be more robust, actually finding relevant info to help the user complete the return. For example, the IRS did away with the contribution deduction outside of Schedule A. Instead of readily making such info available, I needed to Google the answer.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Your instructions aren't always clear!

Your instructions to amend a filed tax return isn't clear, as are many of your instructions. You tell me to click on "file". This word appears 2 places on the screen. Which one am I clicking on? It took me several tries to figure out "in the top upper left area. Why don't you show more picture examples or video links to click on showing what you are saying. Maybe even use YouTube videos?
