Though I have used H&R Block tax prep software for at least 10 going on 20 years, and it seems to work quite well for the Federal Forms, I am frustrated every year because of its less competent handling of the State Forms. Every year I have to re-learn how to do the Pension Deduction part of the process. This year, I noticed a clear error in Block's instructions in 2 places. The correct information was on the State form itself. It said to include income from IRA's, whereas the Block instructions said NOT to include IRA income. In addition, before coming to this part of the process, Block has collected enough information to fill in the forms itself, but nonetheless, it asks me to fill in specific numbers for me and for my wife that I have to hunt for and calculate. The program has those numbers and could calculate it for me.
Very User friendly and accurate software. I have used for several years and am completely satisfied.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This software works acceptably. I used HRB last year for the first time. My criticism from last year still stands in that its interview process isn't as confidence building as its Intuit competitor. The software lacks communication projecting what's likely to happen next based on my circumstances. I did find it easier to use this year, so I sense HRB has improved and I am more familiar with its use. The software seems more of a tool for tax professionals than for the unsophisticated tax laity.
Was only able to import 1099 from TD Ameritrade. Was not able to import ones from other brokers like Fidelity and was kept getting met with an error even though my log in info was correct. Had to manually input W2 as well.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
In the past, this has been awesome software. It is easy to use and presents information in an easy to understand way. This year, the program crashed multiple times on my newer iMac that is running the current operating system version with current patches. More quality assurance testing should be done before the 2023 version is released, especially for the price we pay for the software that we use once a year.
