Good program for many years, but beware...

I've used HRB Deluxe + State for many years. Generally it works very well, but it does NOT allow e-file if there is an entry on Form 1040, Schedule 1, line 24k, for example, an income adjustment from a Schedule K-1, Box 11, Code A (from an estate). HRB says I have to file by paper. The only way to e-file was to delete that entry on the K-1 and forgo a tax deduction. Tried to resolve this by chat and phone with "tax specialist" and "software specialist" but no luck. Case # 15775806
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to import documents

Because my husband passed away, they couldn't figure out a way to bring my info over to this year. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

Overall very good with one minor exception

I purchased the software through a retailer and downloaded it to my computer as I have done for several years. The process of completing my returns, federal and state, went well and was, as always, easy to use. The only glitch occurred when I exiled my returns and I received an error notification upon transmitting my returns. The error stated the activation code was invalid. This resulted in the returns not being transmitted.
After some consternation, I called the H&R help line and advised the robot answering devise I required a new activation key. After asking for my email address, I was promptly sent a new activation code. After entering the code the returns were accepted. This year is the first time this issue arose. Must have been a glitch in the software but the issue was resolved rather easily. I hope next year this issue will be resolved.

I was disappointed that the program would NOT accept "Various" when reporting the contries to which foreign taxes were paid as reported on two K-1s. I had to give up almost $100 in foreign tax credit in order to file electronically for a quicker refund. I may try using Turbotax again next year.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Been using the H&R Block tax software for many years. The tax software is very easy to use and reasonably priced as well as accurate. Have never had an IRS issue since I started using it. Only issue I have is with the H&R Block web site. Pain in the Butt to use. Difficult to navigate to purchase and download section. Keeps bringing you to the file on line option which I don’t like using.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
