Software this year was poor because it had quit a few glitches and crashed multiple times during my tax return preparation
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Connecticut Software error

When I filed my Federal and State of CT returns I was instructed to file by mail and was not eligible for electronic return filing on either case. I filed both returns as instructed by maik, only to find out that I was suppose to include my 1009R in the CT state return. This was not stated on my State of CT Cover sheet of instructions. The state sent me a letter informing me that I need to send them the 1099R forms in 15 days. This has delayed my tax return. Interestingly, the Federal return Cover Sheet instructions told me to include the 1099R forms. This is an error in the State of CT software that I paid extra for.
Have used your software for years but this year I was unable to download my information from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Seems that the problem was in your system. I finally gave up after several weeks and had to load it manually.
HRBlock is very easy to use. Just answer the questions. I’ve been using it for years & I always get money back. The program remembers much of your information from the previous year & you can just fill in the new numbers. That way it saves you a lot of time. I even did my friend’s return in under an hour!
Been using this software for many years. It's clunky, doesn't handle Quicken import very smoothly, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price ... until this year. Got through the whole process, and tried to eFile Federal and state (NY). The federal went through fine, but the state was rejected. It said to follow the instructions to correct the problem, but there were no instructions, just an indecipherable error code.
I suspect the problem was that last year, when my return was especially complex, I gave up on the software and went to a professional accountant. I had a partially done file from last year left on my computer, and I imported from it, thinking I would just get the personal data (names, address, etc.). But it also pulled in the Fed & state AGI from this incomplete return. Of course, these previous-year figures are needed to efile. I was able to correct the federal number, but it wouldn't let me override the state. As a result, I'm forced to paper-file the state return.
