I have used other tax software in the past but of all the tax software I have used this is the easiest to understand and use. All questions were answered quickly, accurately and most importantly understandably. This is the software I will continue to use every year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I have used this software for many years and I like it a lot. This year was by far the worst year I have ever had using HFR Block. It seems they changed several things and now it is very difficult to use. When you “open form”, it used to show the IRS form like the 1040, let’s say. Now it shows a computer form and makes it very hard for me to find the information I needed. When you’re finished and try to print the form on an IMac, it becomes pure hell. The page would be all messed up and cut the page in half not showing the right half of the page. I contacted customer support three times before I could get it printed. Then when I saved the return at the end, the saved copy was in the what I will call the computer form and was 53 pages. My entire return was only 3 pages of the IRS forms. Would you really need to to print 53 pages instead of 3?
After a return is saved is time-consuming to amend specific numbers entered during the interview. Often it is impossible to change numbers on specific forms.
H&R Block's tax preparation softwareis only marginally better than Intuit's truly dreadful product. What started off as a hacky workaround the the IRS' onerous tax filing forms has grown into an industry that openly opposes and spends money lobbying against actually fixing the problem by simplifying the process and/or mandating IRS-provided tools for free.
I loathe this product and the company but am compelled to use it out of expedience and my perception that Intuit is marginally worse.
