It’s hard to use and has strange order of steps. The biggest issue is that it will not work properly for persons in a domestic partnership. It requires extra manipulation of data to work for that purpose. Also, it asks questions that it states it will explain more thoroughly later in the process, but never does.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
Compares very well with TaxAct (an app I had been using for 10 years) My only problem was accessing online stock trade information. I ended up entering all the trades manually
Have used H&R Block Deluxe Fed + State for years with great success. Previously used other programs, but H&R Block is most complete for the money. Less expensive than comparable programs.
Only concern with 2022 federal program is section on Required Minimum Distribution, which does not allow you to uncheck the item saying you underpaid the RMD, the requires you go into further questions as if you underpaid it. Confusing, and possible area for unintentional errors
Otherwise both state and federal very easy to use. I especially like the way state program (Oregon) carries over info from Federal entries.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
The software is very intuitive and does a good job of asking the correct questions for an accurate tax return. I’ve been using this tax software for 15 years with out having any complaints. This year when e-filing my federal return the return bounced back rejected by the IRS as it stated my SS number did not match with there records even though the filing info is the same as the previous 15 years of e-filing. So I ended up printing my federal and state taxes and mailed them in.
