I've used Block tax software for many years. It truly makes taxes easy, by using last year's data to jump start the process. The sub-app for doing charitable contributions is simply great.
I switched from TurboTax to H&R Block over ten years ago. I was unhappy with TurboTax’s pricing for basic tax filing. H&R Block provides good value for the price and is easy to use. I would recommend it to others who file their own taxes.
I’ve used the product for about a decade now. This is the 1st year that I experienced issues with importing from TDAMERITRADE. All of my trades have descriptions that look like 1200000000. What the heck is that nonsense. TDAMERITRADE said the issue is with HRBLOCK. It’s 21Mar and it is still broken. Another issue was with the TXF import of my 1099-R for my Roth conversion. (Had to use the TXF import feature because the download feature was faulty). The software put my account number in SSN field on the form instead of my SSN! Luckily, the software eventually caught the error during the final final verifications before electronically filing my return. All the prior checks missed the mistake. I don’t know what is going on at HRblock this year but they need to hire some better programmers.
This year I encountered two problems, one a repeat issue and the other one new. In years past using this program I've had issues dealing with a K-1 that reports quite a few details. The program fails to deal with all the entries, so I have to force them into place according to IRS instructions and the partnership's instructions.
The major new issuer is this: In 2022 I worked as a contractor, and I received a 1099-NEC. Unfortunately, the total reported in the 1099-NEC included both wages and mileage reimbursement. The program would not allow me to split the total according to what was actually paid to me. The program's approach made me overstate the wages (costing me more in taxes) and understate the mileage reimbursement.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents
Straight forward, clear and efficient. I’ve been using this for years. Not sure if there is a huge difference between various tax software but I find no reason to change. Interview process easy to follow and help is pretty solid
