Disappointed with 2022 Tax Preparation Experience

Almost 20 year user of H&R Block tax software. Very disappointed this year. It took three times (and almost a month after all said and done) for the govt. to accept my return because (paraphrasing H&R Block) "we're experiencing problems with our e-file system, update the software on X date, and re-file."
As a Mac user, I'm also not pleased with the built-in update feature. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, I am forced to go to the H&R Block help center, search for the page where updates can be downloaded, and install the update outside the actual software. This has happened for two-years in a row.
The icing on the cake for me this year was that when I bought the deluxe + state + file software, the state software package did not install (instead it kept asking me to "buy" the state software). This required help-desk interaction and provision of a download link by the help-desk after verifying that I indeed had originally purchased the state software.
I think next year that I'll give TurboTax a try again.

After completing fed return, the software would not accept my code for e-filing. Called customer service and was advised that I would get a call within 15-30minutes. Call happened and rep fixed the code problem immediately. Great person and very helpful!

Program is good for basic tax returns. Anything a little different and the program wants you to figure out what to do. It doesn’t support stocks of public partnerships. I’ve been using the program for over 15 years so know it’s strengths and limitations.
Pros: Easy to import documents

Consistently accurate and thorough. I wouldn’t say it makes doing taxes fun, but less tedious if you are organized. I left off a star because the uploading (from institutions was a complete failure — a first. The program reported that the upload was done, but nothing showed up. I had to enter it all manually, which was a real pain — and then triple check my typing. Ugh.

I do not recommend this for those with state taxes to file. Last year and this year again I had issues with filing and my state taxes were returned. Each time I files is was billed. It costs me time and time again.not a very good strategy to please customers
