Tax software has one job and that is to get your taxes right. HRB 2022 tax software has a glaring error in Massachusetts Schedule X (IRA distributions) that will undoubtedly lead users of the software to underpay their MA taxes and later owe penalties and late fees. Unfortunately, most users won’t catch and correct the error because they trust the software to get it right. There’s no excuse for this lapse in HRB quality assurance. Tax experts should both be writing the software and testing it for accuracy before the software is released to the public.
