The software itself is about as easy as it gets but beware the sneaky ways to get you to part with more money. Especially if you buy the Federal "Plus State". It does not give you what it implies, you will pay extra, indeed a hefty extra charge if you do use it to efile state. Not exactly dishonest but boy are they blurring the lines. Probably betting on the fact that if you are getting a refund and are that deep into the preparation they "gotcha", "oh I'll just go ahead and give them the extra money for the state efile".
I download my investments directly to my federal tax form. The H&R software did not detect that one of my investment companies had made an improper Roth contribution . So my federal tax form was incorrectly submitted and now I am required to refile a corrected tax form for 2021. The software should be programed to flag a contribution that exceeds what is legally allow. NOT HAPPY
Was much easier than calculating the taxes BY HAND. Printing out the forms was a little difficult when came to printing out the Stock Sales on the "8949's.
Have been using the software for 15 years a it continues to be both easy to use and has remained current with IRS rules and regukations. I just discovered that it includes an aid in the completion of our School District Taxes.
Couldn't finalize my return due missing information regarding insurance. I inputted the information, made the payment, and the return was accepted. A couple weeks later I received a letter saying the amount paid was incorrect. There was no difference in the "calculations" the IRS made vs the program. The program incorrectly calculated the amount due by a few thousand. Luckily the guarantee will pay the late fee and interest. But the amount of time and money to get that back isn't worth the effort. Definitely the first and last time I'm using a program to do my own taxes.
