Two years in a row H&R Block software has incorrectly calculated my Federal Tax due when taking into account things like the stimulus money for Covid, etc. 2021 tax resulted in me paying interest.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy instructions to follow. The greatest advantage is that every year the numbers will plug in for you. All you have to do is change out if you need to for income.

I've tried all the tax software. H&R Block is as good as the others. I don't care for their policy about doing taxes online and I don't like how much the software costs, but they are all pretty much the same. It's still hard to find information and forms.
Cons: Hard to import documents

I filed 2 returns, mine and my son's. Mine was returned by the IRS for math error. My so 's was returned by the state for a math error. Pretty shoddy.

I am a 78 year old who am far from a compter genious. In fact if left to my own devices would still be using a rotary phone. That being said I have been using the H&R Block software for a number of years to do my taxes and the ability to transfer information from one year to the next makes tax season much easier. In addition if I encounter a problem there is support available

If the software is free, why do we pay you to use it wether its received by mail or purchased at a retailer? Sounds similar to your competitors million dollar lawsuit

I've been using H&R Block tax prep software since the late 90's when it was called TaxCut. I've always found it useful, and fairly easy to use. My situation has changes several times in this period, but the interview questions covered every situation. I oce itemized deductions during a year with several large purchases, and found it quite simple (it was keeping and finding receipts that was hard!) - - but it's also easy to choose whether to itemize or take the standard deduction (nearly always the best option for most folks). I got married, and my wife had been paying a tax preparer, so it was good to show her I could do it all myself and save us money. We've had our situation changed a few times with kids in college and bouts of unemployment, self employment and retiring. The software always comes through with the right questions. Year after year you pass some questions by, but then comes the year you answer differently due to a life or financial situation change, and you can be assured that the software will ask the right question and take you down the right path to file properly. I've also had to get support at times. I've met with H&R Block professionals who helped me and did not charge me. I can't say I always get the least tax bill because sometimes the IRS informs me I made an error, credits me and lowers my bill - - leaving me wondering how it was I did not (or the software did not) catch this - - but all-in-all I'm satisfied. Some software companies or web sites promise you the maximum tax return, but a you should never get a return if you're smart: you want to pay, but as little as possible. Ideally, your bill would be zero. If your tax situation can be handled by some free web site, then you do not need this software. However, when you do, and you are ready to learn about how to save yourself time and money each year, this package is a good place to start.
