Do Not ask me for my prior year's AGI at the very last step of the process. Tell me this is needed before I start to pay for it.
Make sure that state distribution is a required field when state withholding is entered. Don't wait til filing time. I had to do this 4 times to get them all done.
Include support for forms 8453 and 1098-C. I am trying to avoid the paper.
Otherwise, fine.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Head-scratching errors that can't be fixed?

I've been using H&R Block Tax software for DECADES (started back when it was "better" known as "Taxcut" and the always 2nd place choice to the then reigning champ, Turbo Tax).
The thing I like most about the software is if you're organized with all the right needed documents (W2s, 1099s, local real estate tax document, receipts, etc.), have "simple" tax situations and are meticulous in going through the program's interview-style walkthrough of filing out taxes... well, the program works.
But the minute something "unique" comes up, you're pretty much hosed as the built-in "help" is not very clear or useful. (And go luck trying to get help online through tech support!)
This year (2021 filing), for example, I ran into a really bizarre issue preparing my elderly parents' return. They're both limited income retirees, nothing too hard, and the Federal return filed electronically without a hitch. But when it came to the (NY) State return, the program flagged a "missing entry" in a 1099-R form that "needed to be fixed" before it could be e-filed. Following the programs directions, I went into the electronic version of the form and tried to match it to the actual paper-based 1099 that my parents received.
Well, the actual PAPER form didn't have ANY entry or value in the box that the H&R Block program said that it needed in order to e-file.
Huh?
How am I suppose to put in "missing data" if there IS NO DATA reported to me on the official tax forms mailed to me? (That's like the program telling you there should be an amount in the "state taxes" box of your W2--even though your state doesn't collect income tax!)
OK. So, no e-filing of my State return. So, I try to go through the "print return to mail" process, when it comes to printing the actual return... EVERY SINGLE PAGE comes out stamped "NOT FOR FILING" in the corner.
Uh, but I just stepped through the "interview" process and CHOSE "file by mail." So how come what comes out of my printer is stamped "Not for filing" on EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE?!?!?!?
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

Prior Billing of Tax Software w/o Customer Request
on April 17, 2022

I'm not too sure why your company has started this new method of Prior Billing of Tax Software without first asking the Customer. I don't like this and may have to change to another vendor for future tax services. If I hadn't seen a charge on my credit card bill, I would not have known it was an automatic debit for this tax software.
