I bought the deluxe plus state…. Silly me thought that meant filing state wouldn’t cost also. I feel like I was scammed.
I could have done my taxes through IRS.gov for free and state would have still cost the e-file fee.

Can't handle Health Care forms properly

Been using H&R block software for years, but this is last one. I didn't like the "just fill out the form yourself" for the Health Care marketplace forms. But the Federal form won't include the form that it (and IRS) says must be included if there are zeroes in some fields. The State form keeps changing the SSN for insurance holder which doesn't match reality, so the state rejects the return. Will have to print and mail state form and had to file a fed return with incorrect entries to get correct tax and correct forms included. This software developer knows you can do better.
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good for some, bad for others

Deluxe software has worked prefect for years but not this time.
Unbelievably it didn’t support downloading financial statements from Charles Schwab.
So had to manually enter all transactions.
Secondly, it did not Support Form 8915-F even though it was listed in the supported forms section in the web site. Would have requested a refund but the terms requirements had expired. Will never use product again.

Very easy to use and reliable. I had no trouble importing a txf file for schedule D transactions.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Glitchy this year.

Federal passed analysis but we could not correct an issue to e-file. It was reporting a false error. We finally solved by changing it, saving it, then putting it correct again and it went; stayed in pending statues for two months; problem was we could not e-file our State then which is required by statute. Had same glitch for State after Federal Accepted. It was reporting an error that our wages were less than tax paid. Not true and a look at the form showed correct entries and that a bogus warning. It would not be logical or allow filing. I finally did the same trick; change the entry wrong, put it back the same or correct and it took. But the returns were filed not at the same time and it only shows the status of one at a time. I sometimes get it to show Fed, but mostly just State alone. It is totally wonky this year. Lost confidence in it after 30 years.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare

I have used H & R Block for years without any issues, but this year, I had a few questions which were not easily answered. I wish the chat feature actually had a person on the other end instead of a short variety of problems, none of which were my problem. Had to close out program and search for answer on my own.

The program has been updated several times between December & April. It may give the preparer an impression that it won't be ready until the last update is downloaded. If I prepare & submit the Federal, State & Local returns before downloading the last "Update version", do I miss anything/item/amount on the tax returns?

Sketchy This Year

I have always used and loved H&R Block Software. I downloaded the MAC version and had so many problems. It would bomb out and lose my data. Eventually, I purchased a copy for my Windows computer that worked fine. Not sure what was going on. I also had a lot of issues with importing documents. I had to enter most of them manually. I never had to do that in previous years.
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!
