Interview Makes Assumptions on 8889 Form

I normally love this software. This year we started an HSA. The interview assumes that if one spouse (married filing jointly) has "family" insurance, that both do. In our case my husband's insurance covers our son and him. It would cost more to cover me. It is cheaper for me to pay a single insurance. I had to manually make changes. Also - I went with desktop install. The online version had me pick married, then assumed we were married that year. Maybe I missed something. But I couldn't find a way to change that, or delete the return and start another. If using I recommend a desktop install.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Trouble recognizing info from documents

H&R Block seems to come up with Ingenious ideas to complicate doing your taxes. For example, processing the personal info. The software informs me the information didn't match last year's return. After review info and found it hadn't changed, the software wouldn't advance to the next page. After refusing to except the info, I realize to skip this window and move forward. Really!
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

No way to resubmit state return after correcting a
on March 13, 2022

I completed the Block tax software interview questions and attempted to submit both the federal and the state returns. My stste return was rejected, so I examined the generated forms and found that I had mistakenly included the amount of tax witheld in the question for "Estimated tax payments". I had to go back to the Federal tax interview to correct that problem. After I did, I then re-submitted both the federal abd state returns. The federal return was accepted, but the state return was rejected. I examined the summary for the state return and found the tax witheld was still doubled. I tried repeated to correct the error, but was unable to submit the state return with the correction. I was able to print the state return with the correct figures. So, settled for a "snail mail" submission.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Almost complete step by step guide to doing taxes

This software has a great interface and leads one through all of the IRS questions and requirements. However, there is one question, unlike the 50 other very special situations that don't apply to 99.5% of people using this software yet the questions are presented in the tax software, the question missing, "Did you receive a notice from the IRS with a Identity Protection PIN" Instead one is forced to review each for the IRS tax forms to find the spot to include this IP PIN. After a rejection from the IRS, and a 40 minute search. BTW the How to Correct instructions are wrong and lead to a dead end search. Finally found the spot to add pin down with the signature location on the IRS Form.
