I've used H&R Block software for over 10 years now. This year was the toughest download and install experience I've ever had. When I downloaded the program I intended to get the federal and state and ended up with just the federal. Subsequently when I went to buy and install the state, the purchase routine simply returned to the purchase state window and there was no apparent information showing it had downloaded or installed the state package. I simply thought it was an error on my part but after three times, I finally contacted someone and asked them to delete two of the purchases. She did that BUT the Illinois and Federal purchases separately cost me more than the original purchase that I intended that combined them in one purhase. Ugh. There were other instances where the software simply does not give any overt clue that it has consummated the process. Not a friendly user program this year as compared to previous. Would I recommend it to someone, not with out cautions.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Right Stuff

I have been using H&R Block Deluxe for quite a few years now. I have not used other brands so I can't speak to the differences between Block and the others. This software works for me. It has the features I need and makes doing my taxes much easier than with pencil and paper. I own a home, have a family and do some modest investing in the market. H&R Block gets the job I need done quickly, efficiently and easily. With 5 free e-files, even my four adult children come over to do their taxes using Block deluxe. For me and my family it's the peace of mind you get knowing your taxes were done correctly. Just don't rush, pay attention and use the help feature if you need to get clear on a topic I can't say anything negative about it.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

My Trusted Tax Software

I have lost count of how many years I’ve used H&R Block software. It’s easy to use, download, navigate, and electronically file federal/state returns. I especially like that I’m given warnings if something I’ve entered is unusual or incorrect. This will continue to be my go-to software going forward.

Problems with entering dates for donations. Kept looping to a pop up box to enter the date. Had to go back to previous page and then try to re-enter. Same with entering efile PIN. would not accept until I shut down the program and went back to efile page, then it worked. very frustrating. Also had wrong sales tax rate for Williamsburg, VA. Also no way to print efile IRS accepted notification page. Said to "save" for records but no way to print it out.

Worst software version to date

Kept getting error codes about AGI says. IRS Refused return.. I tried to fix the return per instructions , 3 Times IRS refused the return. Spouse's AGI doesn't match last year's amount. Its a program error. We filed a joint return. This should not happen

2021 Deluxe Fed File

The program worked very well until I submitted it. After it was excepted, a mistake allowed a previous version copy to be saved. I brought the copy data up to date but the program will not allow me to check the status and shows the program as NOT submitted. I have the submission acceptance response and the hard copy. I hope I get help from the help line.
