State income tax offer to purchase.

This year I moved to a state that does not have state income tax. Based on the address I used on my 1040 why did this program ask me if I wanted to purchase a state income tax program to help with my state taxes? It also flagged no state tax field on w-2 line 15 for new state. It could be my w-2 was done wrong and would need a corrected w-2. Her again your program should know if line 15 is needed, or not based on my address.
Other than this program works great.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Basic software was good enough. However when a problem occurred that I could not initially resolve, the online support was not what I would expect and did not resolve my problem. Long wait to speak to assistant and 1st one was of very little assistance. Instructions did not clearly define what was required to be entered in all instances.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Software Updates Delayed
on February 21, 2022

It's so frustrating that the software is not final until 2/17 when you are ready to efile in January but can't because program is not final. Also, the Michigan state program doesn't calculate the tax on pensions correctly without you knowing the tax law on pensions and manually adjusting. The interview for the state program needs to be revised!
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to use.

I have used H&R Block software for a number of years. I have been pleased with the overall ease of using this software. While I know this particular case is a rarity, my wife had a negative balance in Block 5 of the SA 1099 for 2021 because she had to pay back more Social Security income than she drew. This caused us to have to paper file both Federal and State returns; thus, delaying our refunds. I called the help line to confirm that this was correct and was told that we would have to paper file. It seems that there should be an easy fix for this situation in the software to allow for E-filing when this situation arises. This is the only negative that I have had come up in my years of using your product. Overall, I am well pleased with your software.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have been using this product for many years and never had an problem. This year's (2021) version had an availability problem for many of the forms I needed. Consequently, I had to wait weeks for software updates before I could submit my taxes.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Interface is OLD, Incomplete AZ forms, Quitting
on February 21, 2022

I have been using HR Block since the late 90's and I usually can get it for about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of Turbo Tax. I have not felt any concerns about accuracy and trust it. (As a side note tax preparation companies lobby the government to ensure we pay them to do our taxes) I really don't have any problems with anything and with the 5 Federal Efiles I can let my adult kids use the program as well.
My problem is that they really don't innovate and it looks the same every year and it is like they got stuck. The interface is old, the instructions continue to be minimal and support seems very hard to access. Even the accuracy review has continuing bugs. But it is just like they are using the same interface and not making any attempt to improve the product.
My biggest grief is the State (specifically AZ) program. This is at least the 3rd year that they do not include Charitable Foster Care Organization Credit form 352. This means NO EFILE for state and you have to go to the state website to obtain the form yourself. I don't understand, it is no different than the other credits on forms 321, 322, 323 ect! Turbo Tax support all these credit forms for efile and to print. I understand tax codes change and that is the priority, but to loose out on efile money from customers by failing to include a form that AZ supports for efile or to even include it shows a lack of concern for the product. Why should I PAY for a deficient product? If you don't file AZ or need the FOSTER Care credit this may not affect you. But I do think is shows HR Block does not care about their clients or product...so why would you trust them with your taxes? Again I think this industry keeps us doing the government's work, like self-check out at the store.
In a very brief review, the differences in state forms supported by HR Block and Turbo Tax seem to bear out this. If you are worried about your state forms compare products and check the forms to see if they are included. Even if they include the form next year, I don't think I will return unless the interface is improved.
