I bought this last week and was immediately impressed by the quality. I wish there were more pockets/dividers, but it suits my needs well.

Nobody's perfect

I've had the v1 and v2 of this bag. It's the best bag in the world - I've tried a lot of bags over the years. It's great for travelling, fits easily in the carry on allowance for domestic and international flights. It has fantastic features. V2 increased the number of neat magnetic closures that keep the bag looking neat. The adjustable chest strap is easy to use. Things you don't use every day are hidden - e.g., straps and tie downs. It's expandable. Removable bits to cushion camera gear. Stowage for a laptop plus a tablet. One comment I have for the designers is to improve the shoulder hinge on v3. It's very comfortable, but after some time the hinge points can squeak. Amongst the 100 great features of this bag that's one gripe. The warranty is lifetime, and serious. I'm on the train now, looking at my brand new replacement bag that PD sent me. It's my second v2. If they make a v3 I'll buy it. I also have the Capture Clip and a wrist strap. Everything PD makes is worth your consideration

Looks nice but, not best for photographers

This is a good looking back pack for everyday bits and pieces but not good for photographers. For photographers look elsewhere - why: 1- the dividers are not versatile, despite having a clever 'shelf system'. 2- Only two sides of the bag have velcro, so impossible to add other manufacturers padded sub-dividers. 3- The side lids don't open wide they are restricted by the top handle construction. 4- The 'expanding top though a cover idea leaves the contents open to rail when at maximum and one down. I will keep the one I bought but not for carrying any photo stuff- I would have returned it but left it too late.

After oqning the Ash Everyday Backpack v1 for over 9 years, I retired it and switched over to the v2 Midnight backpack. It's build quality remains superb and it's clear that the Peak Design team took it very seriously when they looked to improve upon the original.
The pockets, zippers, and magnets allows a versatility unlike any other bag I've used. You can choose how tactical you want the bag to be/appear at any point in time and it perfectly transforms between the sleek commuter and chock full travel partner.
I cannot recommend this bag highly enough.

i bought the first Everyday Backpack 9 years ago, and it lasted until the side zipper gave out this year. The lifetime warranty really works, and PD sent me the V2 backpack within 2 weeks. (I also purchased the outdoor backpack separately out of curiousity.) I had been a little worried about the loss of storage in the side flaps going from V1 to V2, since V2 only has a few open pockets on the sides.
However, the top back compartment (where the laptop goes) has extra pockets, which are useful for a charger and two cables and easy to get to, the top side door pockets are now accessible from inside the main flap compartment (instead of having to unzip the side doors), and i purchased the large size PD Tech pouch to hold the many items that i have accumulated over time and stuffed inaccessibly in V1's side door pockets. I place the tech pouch in the main compartment and keep it at the top with one of the velcro separators. I also use the key cord to keep the tech pouch permanently tied to the main backpack.
For me, the first thing i look for in a backpack is a large-ish pouch that is accessible but secure (ideally with a zipper). This is a difficult balance to hit, and the Everyday backpack doesn't have it, but the tech pouch jury rig does the job. It is accessible because it is at the top of the main compartment while being secure because it is hidden and also tied to the backpack.
in short, I'm very happy with the V2, very happy with the lifetime warranty (they really mean it), and I will use the outdoor backpack for fieldwork.

My lifelong backpack

I have been enjoying Peak Design backpacks since V1 and cannot imagine using any other backpack or gear. It's sleek design, intuitive use, and large space makes this an integral part of my day to day commute for every day use and for long trips. Anytime I have had an issue with the backpack - years of wear and tear - the lifelong warranty has always succeeded in replacing and upgrading my bag. Do i miss the duller, matte finish of my original brown bag, absolutely - but the newer finish feels more modern and I'm growing to love it. I have never let go of my original V1 keychain system as I'm not a bungee cord person.

Great design + great lifetime warranty makes Peak Design's prices well worth it. They upgraded me to a V2 since they no longer had the V1 in stock. Unfortunately, they didn't have my original color so I chose the Coyote X-Pac color.
I took the V1 everywhere with me. Biking and hiking in the rain and snow, trekking through mud and dirt while loaded up with clothing, camera, and camping gear, using it as quick weekend bag, and lugging it to work and home. It held up well over the several years I had it and it cleaned up easily.
When Peak Design told me they were gonna upgrade me to the V2, I was excited. I own several other Peak Design products that have lasted me years and show little signs of wearing out. I have no reason to doubt the longevity of the V2. The backpack sleeve and pocket are much improved. The pocket even has two smaller pockets to organize your stuff better. The hook strap design feels much better. I really like how they added hook points to the top flap so when you fill up all 30L of this backpack, you can use the hook straps to hold down the top flap The magnets to hold the straps in place was a great choice. I used to hate how the straps would just hang wildly whenever I slipped the backpack onto a suitcase
However, the V2 just feels clunkier overall and somehow smaller. Initially, I questioned whether I was accidentally sent the 20L instead of the 30L. The side zippers can't open up as much as the V1. The side flaps can no longer lay flat when open. This also makes swinging the bag around to access the interior compartments from the sides feels cumbersome. I'd much rather take the bag off and set it down on something The straps are not very comfortable and I would probably not enjoy wearing it for more than an hour. I'm just being picky here, but the magnets on my bag might also be slightly misaligned because I cannot get the straps to lock in criss-cross formation without really having to pull down on the straps, but then it doesn't stay locked in anyways. The side pockets for bottles and tripods is a bit difficult to put stuff in as it gets very tight towards the bottom, and the fold of the fabric also blocks the way. I don't know if it's an X-Pac thing or design thing, but I have to reach my hand in to move the fold out of the way to fully slide in a 12oz can. The V1 had a well-hidden and sturdy interior front pocket to hide things like a wallet, passport, and airtag. Even sometimes I forgot the pocket was there because it's not easy to see. I'm pretty sure Peak Design made a point to use that in their marketing. The V2 version is now very obviously an elastic pocket and I can see the outline of the sticker they put in there. The interior side pockets are not great either. I think the idea was to be able to access the top pockets from the top, but I find that some things I put in there tend to fall out into the main compartment or when I open the sides anyways. The organization of the interior pockets on the V1 is also sorely missed. I used to be able to easily organize all my pens, markers, tools, storage media, first aid, and more in those pockets. The coyote color is more like a shiny gold in the daylight. And it is really shiny. The photos don't make the sheen apparent. Had I known, I wouldn't have chosen it.
While some of the new design choices are great, it's quite unfortunate to have lost so much of what made the V1 a great everything bag.
