Though I miss the disk version of TurboTax, the subscription-based version does give me 5 licenses, which is more than I need. TubroTax has always been a good product and has rarely let me down.

I have been using turbotax for over a decade but will likely not use it again. This year there were two issues that are very disturbing. Both required work arounds that make no sense but were suggested by turbotax staff.
1) I have 529s to pay for my daughters' educations. Both of my children are enrolled at the University of California Santa Barbara. I received 2 1099-Qs for distributions I received and passed on to them to pay their expenses. Turbotax has a section in the income tab for entering all the information for the 529s. However, this caused my tax liability to increase $18k. The program indicated this would be dealt with in the credit section. In that section, however, it simply checks to see if I was eligible for the tax credit for tuition (529s are tax free growth for Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, and computers up to the COI as determined by the institution, not just tuition). It determined that my income was too high for the traditional tax credit and gave no method adjust for applicable expenses. I called for help but the non-CPA staff couldn't help. In March I was told it was a known issue that they were working on and I would receive an email when resolved. No email ever came and on June 9th I called back to be told I was ill-advised in March, there is no fix forthcoming and that I was never going to get an email. Then I was told I needed to upgrade for CPA level help. The extra fee lead not to a solution because of tax knowledge, but a work around. Set the box 1 income on the 1099-Q to zero was the suggestion given to me by the CPA even though the box 1 on the forms should a value. This solved the problem but feels egregious that I am not entering my 1099-Qs faithfully.
The second issue was I got a repeated warning on filing that on my Trust Schedule K-1 box 14 code I, that I didn't have a dollar value associated with it. But I did, I had entered the $2k on my document. I called the CPA line for help. Again, it wasn't that I was doing anything wrong or that I didn't understand what was being asked of me, simply it wouldn't work. For half an hour we sought solution. The final work around was to changed the coding to Z-miscellaneous rather than the I-STMT on the form and available to me on the pull down list in Turbotax.
These two issues show that there are large quality control issues at play at Intuit.
