Showing last year’s values was very helpful. I just needed to update the values for the current year. My returns have gotten much simpler, fortunately

I've been using TurboTax for my personal returns for more than 50 years. Normally I give it a five-star rating but this year I am only giving it four stars because of total cost and because the help regarding form 1095-A was a little vague and misleading which added an extra day's work figuring out what the form was for and if it applied to me or not.

The app is an awful, clunky experience. Maybe the company could divert just a little bit of money from lobbying to keep tax law complicated and spend it on making the product not as bad?
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I had a baby

Can you add a "Save" button so we can save our data intermittently as we are working on our return?
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I suffered through it this year.

For inexplicable reasons, the print feature would not work using TurboTax Premier for Mac. I could not print or save a PDF. No sign of life when attempting to print. All other apps and web sites allow me to print. Also, for my mother-in-law's normally simple retirement federal taxes (my initial impressions follow...), several inexplicable new questions popped in for federal government retirement pension that forced questions such as "cost basis for annuity" (it is a military/federal gov retirement pension!), year annuity started, etc. Attempting to force an answer to these questions prompted a significant increase in taxes. I had to re-work answers that defied logic in order to get the full return as in the past and as should be correct.

Invasion of privacy. What's next?

I have been a Turbo Tax user for more than 20 years. This year (tax year 2024), I had problem installing the software. It turned out that I had to give up some personal information before I could proceed. I considered this an invasion of privacy and will seek alternatives next year.

This was the first time in about 30 years that we didn't use a CPA. The TurboTax premier software was easy to use. We did have to call a Turbo Tax expert (Tamika) to help us with the Rental Property section, and she was great! Answered all our questions, gave us clear explanations, and was patient while we fumbled around looking for info from last year's returns.

The tax forms are full of errors. You need to override multiple entries and do work arounds on others, Some Examples: Colorado state tax form 104 line 5 needs to have a 1 instead of a 0. Why? Arizona state tax forms 301 and 310 don't work and require overrides. The explanation of many of the items on Federal Form 1040 are so poorly worded you can't understand what they mean. I used Turbotax business. Why doesn't that information transfer directly to my personal return?
