Foreign Tax Credit

While TurboTax does a lot of things right there's one area that drives me nuts every year and that's entering foreign tax data (form 1116). The program instructions and the (more info) help files appear to contradict each other and it's not really clear how to make multiple entries. I get that it's looking for the largest credit first, but when I add a second entry, it seems to overwrite the first and then I have no idea what's happening under the covers. Luckily phone help was first rate and with a desktop environment and screen sharing I could see what was going on. Somehow all of that needs to be translated into a first rate, detailed, step by step help file. The process of getting live help is a bit convoluted but it does work and when they tell you someone will call within 24 minutes, they do. I've been using TurboTax since the DOS and dot matrix days and have never used anything else, so I can't compare it to other programs. But, all in all, I'm pleased with my purchase, and happy to be done with it for another year.

I have used TurboTax since the beginning when it was on floppy disks. I have accumulated so much history it keeps up with all my real estate sales and depreciation calculations perfectly. Plus, I also did all my business Schedule C calculations too.

I’ve used your TT product for at least 12 years. Your Turbo Tax product keeps getting better and better every year. I would appreciate larger text size on certain windows throughout input process. I would like better explanations regarding AMT. I appreciate ease of changing data entries. It is great I can upload mutual fund data. Because our annual income is uneven the estimated tax calculations and ease of inputting estimated income data for my CA return was very useful. Frankly with my background in accounting I was able to feel confident enough to stop using a CEA Consultant 3 years ago to prepare our returns. I started using a CEA as our financial situation grew more complex but still used Turbo Tax too and would compare returns too often finding CEA made a mistake with their input of on our tax return. Being fiscally prudent I would appreciate a lower cost product.

The Repeated Questions

i have used Turbo Tax for years and it seems that you are trying to dumb it down for users and ask the same dumb question time after time . Zip code should be fix to auto fill city and state. You have to answer the same dumb question on interest , dividends and investments. it takes too long to input data because of the repeated input. Look at Tax Slayer program. It is much simpler to use and takes less time for input
