The section dealing with foreign tax credits (for foreign taxes paid on non-US stocks) is inscrutable and is very difficult to work with. Asks for info (like total income from foreign sources) which is not always shown on brokers' tax or year-end consolidated statements. Also, It would be helpful up front to know how much the standard deduction is worth and to be given the option of skipping over all of that data entry for mortgage, real estate taxes, contributions, child care, adoption, etc. which is applicable only for itemized deductions. In the Massachusetts state program, you should tell me up front what the income limit is for a "circuit breaker" rather than forcing me to hunt down real estate tax and water/sewer bills, only to tell me at the end that I'm not eligible for a circuit breaker after I've added up and typed in all that info.
