I have never had to file quarterly, aways had an end of year W2. After going through all the steps i got a message saying that I had an underpayment penalty of $293 for underestimating my 2023 quarterly tax. As a result, the new amount from the tax I owed jumped over $1000. I double checked my work, and it was good. I backed up and went through the steps again, same result. I pushed forward and it started asking for information that I didn't have. When I got stuck, I went back again to where it all started and no longer got the underpayment penalty message. Additionally, when I would enter income from a long-term capital gain my tax would increase by 19% with each entry instead of 15%.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Was happy with most of it. The capital gains section was confusing comparing 2024 to 2025. 24s info was only viewable as a total, not broken down. 25s info was presented strangely as well. The estimated tax section was very confusing as it was put together with the W4 update. In the estimated section re Investment income presented, there was no way to see the details of the total suggested. Very frustrating what was being used as the total. I finally gave up on Turbo Tax version and us the IRS.gov version which was much easier to understand.

The "Foreign Tax Paid" 1116 instructions were very discouraging, so I abandoned exploring deduction/credit. The rest of it got me through fairly well. Unfortunately for me, there is always some new wrinkle to figure out. For the second year in a row, my broker download did not work. I'm learning a lot by preparing my family's taxes that makes me hope this External Revenue Service works out. Helped an elderly relative prepare tax return on online version, which I don't like as much as the desktop version.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I was surprised that we missed 1 form. But Turbo Tax is written to easily handle that problem too. We were able to add the missed for and re-submit the federal and state without a problem. I was concerned that Turbo Tax was not going to be smart enough to not charge again for the Sate return re-submission, but i am here to testify that even that situation was efficiently processed by Turbo Tax !!! Thank you to all the software people !!!
Pros: My employment status changed this year, I bought or sold investments
