TT24 not as good as prior years. Not sure for 25.

2024 TT was not as good as previous years. Upload of documents made review so difficult that I decided to not load 2023 tax return but to start from scratch. This has always been a big advantage which has been eliminated by software design.

Turbo Tax was good, but has issues

Turbotax was innovate and great when it first came out. However, over time it has become a challenge and Turbotax used to offer free help that was very good. Now every step of the way, Turbotax is trying to get you to upgrade. Turbotax doesn't fix their known problems even though I have to call every year about some aspect of it. They have an issue with estimated tax payments that are uneven on the State Form where you need to amortize your income to avoid a penalty. For Arizona that is form 221. The Federal portion works great and allows you not to be charged a penalty. However, on the state forms, you have to download the forms manually and only use the desktop version. Then on the main tax for AZ Form 140, you have to manually override the Form because it doesn't fill it in that you amortized and included Form 221 (to check the boxes on line 77). Then you have to manually enter your penalty or zero, if there is no penalty. If you don't know this, then you can receive a penalty back from the state if you income was uneven and your didn't pay enough taxes each quarter if the income was evened out over the year.

Generally ok, but managed to entice me into entering my interest and dividend income twice, which was only discovered by looking at the forms individually. A significant tax increase if I hadn't caught the error.

Turbo Tax Premier Bugs - how to report?

I believe there is a bug in Form 8606. It did not allow me to do a back door Roth conversion with non-deductible IRA funds which caused me a lot of grief. I also was unable to report it. May need to switch tax software next year.
