I've used TurboTax for 5 or 6 years, and always was very happy with it. This year I was disappointed because I got stuck in DO-loops several times, called the Intuit help line and was told to exit the return, clear all my cookies and data, and then re-open the return. That helped, but it just seemed strange that I'd get stuck in a DO-loop to begin with. Unlike years past, TurboTax had trouble accessing my brokerage to get the investments data, then it sort of did, but not completely, so I had to enter some of it manually. I also had trouble with a certain entry and ended up doubling the amount of tax credit and I tried every which way to delete it and start that section over, but couldn't (it wasn't that much money but still...). That seemed very bizarre, and by the time I was there I was simply too tired to call the Intuit help line again to sort it out.

Turbo Tax Makes It Easy To Do Taxes Yourself

Pretty easy to follow all the things Turbo Tax needs me to do. I like that it has pop-ups available if I have a tax question. I also love that I can import my stock info, as well as any bank info needed. And I love that it has all the figures from last year to compare.

Securities import failed

import for securities transactions only had he option of logging into my brokerage account. Despite saying it imported the data successfully 4 times, it did not. It also didn't have an option to import a pdf or xlsx version of the 1099s I had to enter all the information myself.

Hope to have better Roth IRA support

Good overall but would like to have instruction for Roth IRA mega backdoor contributions. I.e. the instruction about how to report the rollover from after-tax 401k to roth 401k.

Good, but they charge for e-Filing

It does the right stuff, step by step, but they ought not to charge to e-file the state returns, which can be done for free if you have the data in the right format. I'll be looking to the competition next year for free filing if they can do the rest of the job as seamlessly as TurboTax.

Turbo Tax Premier software is fairly easy to use. Unfortunately, the IRS is not so easy to understand but Turbo Tax made it as painless as possible.
