This has been the buggiest and most difficult to use edition of TurboTax. It constantly locked up when retrieving my tax files, it locks up my computer requiring a reboot and would not recognize my tax file from last year that was saved on a USB. In addition, I had an IP. Pin and the software did not ask me to enter it anywhere. Worse yet, help files made it very difficult to see where it needed entered. All in all, this was the worst version of software I have purchased from TurboTax over the years.

TurboTax not user friendly

The tax questions are not always clear as to what is being requested. The process tends to produce questions that need researching, which is time-consuming.

Problems with TurboTax 2024 Desktop Version

This was my first year to download the desktop version of TurboTax. In the past, I used the CD. It was very difficult to find and transfer the 2023 tax information although the 2023 TurboTax Icon was on my computer and I had saved the return last year. It was on my desktop, but the access was somehow changed. I had to search the internet for the similar problem and figured out how to access it by using Admin user. This was unlike any other year, and I've been using TurboTax successfully for well over ten years. After figuring out how to get the 2023 information, I did most of my input for the 2024 tax return but had to wait for a delayed 1099 in order to finish. When I returned to TurboTax, I was unable to find the 2024 return after clicking on the icon. The only option it gave was start a new return or amend. In the browse area, nothing showed up. I didn't want to start again so I had to search the internet again. Clicking on the TurboTax icon and right clicking while choosing Run as Admin didn't work. Chose properties and another box for Admin. When I was ready to file, the return wasn't accepted until I updated TurboTax. After updating, I couldn't open again and had to go through all the Admin routine. Finally found the tax return, made another copy of just the return and state return to mail in case the e-filing didn't work. Well, the e-filing just worked so I'm done! I hope these problems don't occur next year. Also, in the past, there was one state return that was free. This year, I got the "free" Washington State return, but did not need to file because we don't have an income tax so I had to pay $15 for Hawaii Out of State return ($25 less a Costco $10 credit). I think one state return should be free like in past years instead of TurboTax making the decision on what state return is free. I used to rate TurboTax a five, but this year was a three.

TurboTax Premier is tremendous!!

The product does everything that it advertises. It's step by step guidance as well as the final printout of forms and ability to save the work makes the filing process simple.

Turbotax is terrific except for complex situations

In some instances like foreign tax credits and forms associated with K-1s, turbotax takes the easy way out and tells the user what additional IRS forms , they will need but really doesn't provide help. I would pay for a professional version of the product. I have been doing our taxes for 20 years under the simple principal that everyone should be able to do their own taxes regardless of the complexity of their situation
