Turbo Tax for Retired tax payer

Turbo Tax is much easier than filling out a paper documents. Also, the questions that the IRS ask now are much more complicated than in previous years. Turbo Tax gives great explanations on how to fill out the form and instructions on why the questions are asked.

TurboTax makes Mistakes

I have started tracking TurboTax with an Excel spreadsheet. It has made small mistakes on my state Tax return for the last 7 years amounting to $5.30 in addition tax. ( It apparently corrupted one of the 1099 forms it imported from prior years.) I started this when I noticed it had made a mistake on my 2021 Federal Tax Filing. Intuit had me export the data and this apparently corrected the issue. They had me file an amended return. So, you need to check its results.

Continuous popups and requests to add on and pay additional fees are confusing, inexcusable, predatory, and unneeded after paying for a "premium" software product.

A necessary evil when doing your own taxes.

The software helps with all the mess of dealing with multiple 1099 forms for interest and retirement accounts but I always have to dig to find where to enter tax payments I have made outside of 1040-ES. I also have to dig to find out where to apply refund amounts to next year.
