I have been using Turbo Tax since 1995. I Have always loved it, until this year. I feel that the format used this year was different than before and I found it confusing. I usually get it done in one day, and this year it took me four days, and I needed technical assistance when I came to an area that I could not get through. The Technical lady was able to get through it and I was able to proceed, but I often had to make four or five entries to the same template to finally get it correct.

Worst experience after years of using Turbo Tax

Updater continually failed. I had to manually update the software and was only able to figure out how by going through loads of useless info. The failure to update prevented me from filing my taxes until after I finally figured out how to manually update the software. Moreover, when I call help/support, I want to talk to a LIVE person not some automated answering program that couldn't process my issue.

Obtuse areas...Incorrect state deduction

Hours were spent trying to delete an error on a form 8949 via "Easy Review" (I could not delete from the form). I had to call and received help-- A bar on the bottom could be moved to the right to DELETE it!!
Maryland Return had an auto Credit applied for LTC Insurance...However, Maryland only allows this once,
which was taken years ago ... so it was almost a $1,000 error.

Long Time User, Works well but have suggestions

I have been using Turbo Tax since the MS-DOS days and prefer it over using a tax professional. It handles importing all the standard forms like W-2, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, I099-R, etc. very efficiently online from banks and brokerages. It is less proficient with K-1 and other less common forms. I wish Intuit couid work more with the major brokerage companies to develop a standard for their tax reporting forms to make it easier to verify that information such as brokerage proceeds are imported correctly and that the various investment fees can be imported automatically. There is still much manual work to be done such as collecting IRA information and medical expenses. Also the state tax handling is much less advanced than the federal, and the instructions can be confusing.

TurboTax is Great! (Tony the Tiger uses it too!)

I've been using TurboTax for many years and, even though our current return is very simple, I have found it to be easy to use if you use the step-by-step instructions. Ease of filing is great although $25 to file a state return is a bit much.

Printing tax returns

Overall it is good. However, I miss the options in printing the returns. In the past, there were options to print tax returns only for either the Federal or state taxes. Now I had to scroll the full return in order to take out the pages I do not want to print.

Trying to drive Live Tax Advice purchase by users

I have used Turbo Tax for years and am a retired CPA who specialized in tax preparation. It appears you deliberately made certain areas of the tax return preparation process less intuitive than in years past which would drive many people to pay extra for your "Live Tax Advice." I find that to be a sneaky and manipulative practice which I do not appreciate. If that continues in future years, I will source my tax preparation software from another vendor.
