Hard to navigate, hard to search; time consuming

TurboTax is not quite easy. There were a few things I couldn't figure out how to do. (1) We didn't need to file estimated state taxes during 2024 but we will need to file them this year. I could not figure out how to generate state estimated tax payment forms for 2025. (The federal ones printed automatically, the state ones seem to be unavailable; I'll have to download them from the state website.) (2) It took more than an hour of reviewing and re-reviewing before I finally figured out to get the credit for overpaid state taxes not refunded last year to appear as a deduction from this year's state taxes, because you don't treat it as part of state taxes, but as an irrelevant part of federal taxes. It sure would have been helpful if I could have skipped parts of the state taxes algorithm that had already been addressed, because each time I went back through, trying to find the field that I seemed to have overlooked, I felt I had to reread carefully every line of the pages I had already read before, more than once—an endless loop of frustration. (3) I couldn't figure out how to print copies of my tax forms for filing by mail. (I won't e-file because, last year, the state never received my e-filed return from you, and I very nearly got penalized.)

Good but getting worse
on March 23, 2025

It's getting worse. This year has issues with two things that Turbo Tax can't figure out. 1) I have an old HSA and presently neither my wife or I have HDHP, but Turbo tax can't seem to deal with that and it wouldn't let me file without selecting either self or family for covered under HDHP. I eventually caved an incorrectly chose self just to file. 2) Interest income imports incorrectly into the NH's DP-10 Interest/Dividend form. Many empty lines in the list of Int/div statements make it so I cannot e-file the NH form! I could not find a way to remove them by either messing with the Fed form or trying to remove them from the state form. Now I have to file by paper because Turbo Tax is dumb.

Good, but Problems with RMD's

I used TurboTax for years and liked it very much. However, this year for my 2024 Filing, I found that T.T. did not handle multiple IRA RMD's well. I have several 1099-R's one of which was a Pension. I part of one RMD distribution from that IRA and paid the balance plus all the other IRA's RMD's from one other. The total RMD distribution from all these 1099-R's fully achieved by required total. However, TT kept showing me with penalty. Finally this got resolved but I feel like TT had bugs in their software and did not account for this situation. This is the first year that this has happened. What went wrong with the TT software?

Solid tool to our tax needs.

Overall, the experience was very smooth. I have two suggestions:
- the 1099 DIV page is too busy. Instead of being all my 1099 on one page, there are in these large graphic boxes. To get to the bottom, I am scrolling down 6 pages... There has be a a more elegant/concise way to list all the 1099s. Worse, when you edit one of the entries, it scrolls back to the top and you have to scroll down to the bottom again to edit the one you selected. - I did have a problem with line 20 on the NY IT201 tax form. it was zero even though I filled in the correct NY percentage. I found the the problem on the worksheet, put NY instead of XX in the needed filed. It would be have been useful to get trace line 20 back to the federal worksheet to see where the value was coming from. I ended up call ing support and through trial and error, we figure it out.
