Turbo Tax Premier

Turbo is excellent for pulling in the previous year’s data and comparing to ensure nothing has been missed.
I had an issue where I couldn’t e-file for a particular state and had to spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. Fortunately, I called and spent time with ‘Elizabeth’ working through several ideas to try and fix the issue. I eventually had to paper file with that state, but actually working with a live person who was very understanding and helpful made this issue much easier to deal with. Elizabeth was truly awesome!

TurboTax helps, but cut out inefficiencies
on March 21, 2025

I've used TurboTax for years, and it's been effective in filling out all relevant forms and worksheets after I answer questions and input data. It's not perfect, and there's a lot I have to look up in complicated situations, but that's taxes. I like that it does give me the option to just look at forms and enter or adjust numbers. I also like very much that in the different big sections, it lets me either take the interview all the way through or "choose what you will work on."
That said, at the end of at least a couple of sections, once you say you're Done, TT asks a bunch more questions. Which is fine, except that if you go back into the section to complete or edit a subsection, you have to answer all those questions again after hitting Done. That hurts its efficiency.
Other gripes:
• After a few sections, TT shows stupid progress bars. Like "analyzing your return for deductions." Just cut out the phony software "thinking" and move on; the bars slow us down, especially if we must go back into sections.
• How many times must we re-enter bank account and driver's license numbers? If we're using the bank account from last year, just ask us if we're using the same one and move on. Then TT has us do it *again* for the state return. It's excessive. TT now asks for driver's license numbers, apparently "just in case," but then you may have to enter them again anyway on the Illinois return. And those also could be carried over from year to year, checking the issue and expiration dates. The actual e-filing gets to be as cumbersome as doing the return in the first place.
• When entering dividends, you have the option to note that "a portion of dividends are attributable to U.S. dividends." Then you must enter that portion of dividends. Can TT give us the option to just enter a percentage and let TT do the math on the portion of dividends?
• For deductible medical expenses: The advice needs to be greatly expanded for facility and long-term care expenses, which can overlap. It should talk about how a percentage of assisted-living facilities' costs are deductible, and when they can be fully deductible (in the case of care needed for people with "chronic illnesses").
Pros: My employment status changed this year

TurboTax Premier Review: Simply the Best for Inves

I’ve used several tax software programs over the years, but TurboTax Premier stands out as the best by far. The ease of use, thoroughness of the questions, and step-by-step guidance make it vastly superior to its competitors.
TurboTax Premier excels at handling investment income and rental property taxes, making complex financial situations feel simple. The interface is intuitive, and the explanations at each step help ensure accuracy and maximize deductions. Unlike other programs that feel clunky or vague, TurboTax makes everything crystal clear.
If you have investments, stock trades, or rental properties, this edition is well worth it. It’s fast, efficient, and makes filing your taxes as stress-free as possible. Highly recommend!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Lots of Program Problems This year
on March 21, 2025
Posted by: rjk2024
Using turbo tax this year was difficult. Program glitches didn't allow printing for review prior to filing. Couldn't put credit card information in as the screens were too big and there was no scroll bar. The line by line help was missing and it was difficult to find help.

I seldom rate anything at the top or the bottom of the scale. However, I did consider rating TurboTax Premier with the top rating.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to an enhanced 2025 TurboTax product.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
