Turbo Tax is great. Online account is a trouble.

The Turbo Tax itself is a great product, but forced online accounts is a great detractor.
First, you are forced to create an online account. Then, you have to watch very carefully so that none of your data accidentally ends up there. And if it does, it takes two weeks (!) to delete it.
Then, each time you try to install or use Turbo Tax it requires you to log in, and to confirm your email, AND then then license key.
Why? I do not want an online account. I have nothing to store or to protect there. Can we simply remove that blocker and have license-based activation, as it used to work for decades before?

Simple to use, will nickle and dime you.

Easy enough to use but not a fan of all the fees. Will walk you through the steps but if will take the opportunity to charge you extra at any chance. State cost $25 to file electronically. You want to deduct it from a refund... well that's another $40 "convenience" fee. I'd prefer to buy a tax service where I'm not constantly asked for add-ons at every step. Will be exploring different options for next years return.

Overall, I have been very happy with TurboTax. However, this year I had a bit of difficulty with the e-file. I downloaded the 1099-INT and the 1099-DIV directly from Edward Jones. When I tried to e-file, TurboTax notified me of a problem with these forms. The zip code of my address was supposedly not formatted properly. Except, when I checked it, it was formatted exactly as it was supposed to be. I had to file by mail instead. That was after I had already paid $15 ($25 - a $10 discount) for the state e-file. I am not sure how that will work out yet.

2024 TT Review

Importing brokerage statements worked this year, as opposed to 2023, which is good. The interview process is pretty helpful. It would be nice if TT developed a version that would work on Linux. Windows is slower.
