Turbo Tax 2024

Turbo Tax is pretty easy to use and being able to download your investment information makes it easier. Although it seems to have changed some from last year. I needed to ask a simple question and could not locate a phone number to speak to anyone and the only other option was going to the community forum. If I'm using their product I feel like I should be able to speak to someone if necessary.

2024 Download is "Buggy"

I have used the Premier product for years with no problems, but it's always been the "disc" version rather than the download desktop version that was the only available product this year. Both the Federal and GA state forms were "buggy". I had multiple problems entering data, particularly in the charitable donation section on the Fed form. I would enter info and "continue" but it would cycle back to the same organization each time without saving the amount. The GA state form was worse....it didn't register my personal info or other data from the Fed form, even after opening/closing multiple times. Finally after saving the Fed form (again) and reopening the state form it registered info (including birthdate, which is necessary for the retirement income exclusion). All in all, a less than optimal experience after years of smooth sailing using the disc to load software.

VA state Schedule CR wrong entry of zero

TurboTax completed my forms for federal and state of Virginia returns. However it would not file them electronically because the "Pass through entity elective tax payment credit on Schedule CR section 3 part 6 had a zero entered (by the program, I did not do this), and it should have been left blank. When I deleted the zero, the program put it back in. The result was that it would not let me file electronically. I called for live customer service help after several Q & A type help screens were no help. She went through the forms with me, located the problem and showed me how to fix it. She was a real 10! The live agent phone # was hard to find, but I had no waiting when I eventually dialed the #.

I have been using TurboTax since 1995. I have never had a problem with doing my returns or been audited.

One major failing and one major improvement. I've been using Quicken for 25 years because I can import directly into Turbotax. This year it didn't work, and the alternative offered did not work, either. After a couple hours on the phone you found a workaround. Something that major and obvious should NOT fail! On the other hand, for the first time TT was able to help me submit my form 1116, Foreign Tax Credit, correctly. It asked for a little more information that I had to dig out of my 1099s, but other than that, much better than before, when it was impossible.

Could give you 5 Stars but Turbo Tax is not perfect yet. I have been using Turbo Tax Software for 20 years or more. Turbo tax has improved many things but one thing I dislike is those dots you click on. When I want to double check on something then dot is blank, and you have to enter it again.
