Useful for tax filing but has inconsistent UI

One star off for inconsistency question/answer patterns. Some times it gives a list of checkboxes that includes a None of the above option. Other times it provides a list and asks Do any of these apply Yes/No button. And it often fails to store selections for when you return the next time to the same page. One star off for the pathetic Oregon state form help on screen. Fed forms has links to help beside many of the options so you can learn what the label or phrase is talking about. But not so for Oregon forms. Very limited help info for Oregon form options. Otherwise the product easy steps walks you through. I do think there are several places in the Fed forms where it asks you questions before they should have. Then you come to a disqualified question that negated the need for the earlier questions to even be asked. Please organize the questions in the order of importance so downstream questions are skipped if earlier questions indicate no need for the later set of questions. I do like the ease of jumping to the Forms view from EasyStep and vice-versa. For those who don't know, when you get errors during the checking phase, it will give you super vague error messages as to what is missing but no context! But clicking into the Forms view will take you to the referenced form and item number to fix. When you know that, it's convenient. When you don't know that (they don't tell you in EasyStep) it can be frustrating wondering what they are talking about.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

A great product

I have used Turbotax for many years. It is amazing well thought out software. It basically does great, although occassionally I have run into a situation it could not handle, e.g. At least a few years ago it could not easily handle divided a single 1031 into multiple new properties. It also was unable to submit the form to claim that a foreign social security account is not taxable in the U.S. It also did not offer a method to create a 1099R for a foreign pension.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Make this program a joy to use

It works, but it's too expensive, buggy, and time consuming. Here are my main complaints: Entering K-1's is a pain. K-1s for PTP's should not be so hard. Why can't Turbo Tax make it simple to split off a second K-1 when there's info in Boxes 1 and 2. Why can't it fan out a whole set of K-1's when I have a K-1 that breaks out for three partnerships - especially when two of those have Box 1 and 2 filled in (Looking at you, ET) Now let's talk bugs: (1) Every year there are bugs that cause stumbles that I have to work hours to get around. This year, it is certain bits of info that TurboTax asks about and then it is impossible to get back to. It will ask you something you answer but then you back up to change it and it is gone - No way to ever get back to it. One of these happened in the main program and another in the state tax. (2) When I tried to open a saved copy of my tax from before I started working on state, due to the aforementioned bug, it wouldn't open the state - it just sat there. I could skip over state and file but I wasn't going to do that with out at least looking at it even though the numbers were right. (3) Trying to work around bugs, led me to save several copies of my taxes. Turbotax doesn't allow me to see the whole name when I'm trying to open a file.

I've used Turbo Tax for several years. It is easy to use and when I have a question I ask for a call back and they always do and always answer my questions.

Redundant entries and overall value proposition.

Redundant input requests on information that could easier be cross-referenced from earlier form entries. Add-on fees for audit defense, filing, expert tax advice in addition to costs of software make the value proposition less compelling vs having a full-service tax preparations...particularly for rather straight forward tax scenarios.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
