TurboTax is Great, but Getting Greedy

I love TurboTax. Been using it almost as long as it's been available. What I DON'T like is that you make the costly options such as electing to pay for my state return from my Federal tax refund the primary option. That's just wrong, and annoying.

Turbotax 2024 had lots of glitches

Every year Turbotax presents me with new frustrations. I initially had trouble finding my prior year return in order to transfer the data to the current year. It did not automatically pop up. I eventually found it hiding in my Applications folder. In addition, electronically transferring my 1099-int, 1099-div, and 1099 B forms from my Brokerage Firm was a nightmare! All the investments were labeled identically, so I couldn't easily tell one account from another. Some of the imported forms were transmitted in duplicate. Some of the forms that automatically transferred belonged to the social security number of another family member! Deleting the incorrect imported forms was difficult as the instructions appear to be for a PC, while I have an Apple Mac. The so-called HELP function was no help. After many hours I eventually figured out how to delete the incorrectly imported forms using my Mac computer. (The TurboTax software that I purchased was said to be for a Mac). The good news is that the problems I've had with "errors!" in reporting Foreign Tax Credits in past Turbotax versions appear to have been resolved.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Sucks
on March 17, 2025

I have issues with it every year. This year I can't print my returns for my records-even though it has been filed and accepted. I hit "Print Returns" and it says to wait while it organizes. Then nothing happens. I have tried repeatedly. There is no real help built in to the system.

No Title

I have used turbo tax for several years without a problem. I had a major problem with the Az return this year which took several hours to get the return to get to the correct tax. The problem was on line 47 on the return. The system added a extra $1,000.00 tax on that line. The supporting schedules showed zero but the system would not let me remove or edit this number. I had to input false information which to change this number. I had done this before without the number changing. I have to correct the false information to correct the return.

Where are the patch notes? Losing faith in T-Tax
on March 18, 2025
Posted by: JudokaJim
They do not make the patch and update notes available to know what they fixed in each update.
I spent the better part of an hour after this last update trying to find patch notes for the update anywhere, including from all of their on-line help.
They are too secretive about what was fixed in each update. It makes you think they have screwed things up so badly that they are afraid to tell you what changed.
I want to know what is being changed in an update to know if it will affect my return. They used to tell you in the past and at least let you browse the patch notes if you wanted.
This fact alone is enough to make me start to lose faith in their products.
When you are dealing with MY taxes, I want to know what you changed each time you push an update.
If I decide it likely doesn't have an impact on my return, great. If it does, I want to know about it.
I have used TurboTax for many years, but now I may start looking for other solutions for next year.
