Turbo Tax - Worthless $10 credit
on March 17, 2025

Prepares taxes, but the $10 credit is worthless unless you purchase more. They charge $25 to file the state, but only give you $10 credit. You can't purchase anything for $10, so it's mostly worthless. Debating on using a different tax preparation software next year.

TurboTax Wants You to Pay More
on March 17, 2025

Review which edition you started with up front so you don't have to start over. Ended up saving over $50 by restarting. It will keep trying to push you to a higher cost edition and then require you to start over if you had the mistake of accepting, so it's a bit of a mine field.

Needs Fixes

It is madding that is requests drivers license info 4 times if e-filing state. With husband and wife having joint accounts at a place, it pulls the same info from both accounts to double the amount that gets taxed. Have to manually delete the extra entries (and try to remember that it needs done). This problem has existed for at least 3 years. Most of the help popups are in a font too small to read. What you can read is meaningless IRS form quotes. I wished the thing would give some estimate of how much the itemized deductions would have to amount to before they would count. I hate the time wasted on entering the data for the standard deduction to work. Most of the W-2 and 1099s were not read correctly and had to be modified for missing data. The form to do this again has the tiny print and boxes to fill in.

Data entry could be improved/made more efficient
on March 17, 2025

As a retired tax professional accustomed to professional software, I find that you could use improvements. The manner of entry for capital gains could be much improved as well as interest and dividends. You could use a way to save the payors so that this information didn't have to be repeatedly entered for multiple 1099 forms.

Works quite well. One suggestion, should prompt user when estimated tax needs to be calculated for the coming tax year.
