If it ain't broke...

This year I found changes to navigating Turbo Tax cumbersome and unhelpful. When I couldn't upload income forms (that's on me) and wanted to type in myself, there was too much back and forth. I couldn't just choose the category and go. Otherwise everything else was great and went smoothly. It also took me a while to figure out how to return to the program after looking at the actual return.

Not Premier If Stock Entry Is Manual

Got Premier to help with stocks and bonds, but I still have to do everything manually. Automatic import from Fidelity and Merrill is incomplete. It's normal to have internation stocks with foreign tax withholding, Turbotax doesn't help with that. It's complicated and they just link to the documentation and say figure it out. Not really a Premier experience. Just trying to get me to pay for advice by crippling the software?

Fucntional, and Could Use more Forms

Very easy to transfer previous year information, which is very helpful for rental property worksheets. I do wish they included forms 8332 Release/Revocation of Release of Claim to Exemption for Child by Custodial Parent. It was a real pain to figure out how to submit this form.

TurboTax is good and helpful

TurboTax has a good dialog process compared to other software that I have used. It is expensive compared to others and whether it is worth is an individual choice. For very complex situations it is quite the same as some other software that do the same thing. I use Turbotax as I have gotten into the habit - the retrieval of investment information, carry over of prior years data for reference in the current year are some of the features that have me hooked, though at times I have tried to break out of it. The Turbo Tax community Q&A is good and has answered my questions in many cases for common issues.

I have been using Turbo Tax since it was called "Chipsoft". It was awesome software then and is absolutely the best I have ever used.

TurboTax is not Awesome

Major flaw in the TT app for iPad and Desktop versions. 1099 forms downloaded correctly but the amount in box three of one 1099 was completely ignored by the app and desktop software. Reported the issue weeks prior to filing but no update was forthcoming. Another issue: contrary to TT info, amended returns may be filed electronically for at least two preceding tax years as of January 2, 2025.

Account Linking to Import Feature Disappoints

I recently used TurboTax for Mac, and while it performed admirably in many aspects, I had some reservations about certain features. On the positive side, the software worked seamlessly—its user-friendly interface, clear guidance, and accuracy in calculations made filing taxes straightforward and stress-free.
However, I wasn't entirely comfortable with the push to connect my financial accounts with Intuit to import data. While I understand this feature is intended to save time, I’m concerned about the privacy implications and the unnecessary collection of my financial information by Intuit. In the past, TurboTax allowed imports in a simpler, more traditional manner, which I much preferred.
Overall, TurboTax remains a solid tool for tax preparation, but I'd love to see an alternative option for importing data that prioritizes user privacy and minimizes reliance on account linking.
