Turbotax works but not fully upfront with cost

Ran into some bugs while filing. Also if you want to efile your federal return AND pay additional fees for the processing, turbo tax had some $45 add on that they quietly tack on at the end--if you choose not to do that you can go back and pay the lesser fee (i think it was $15) with a credit card. But I thought that was pretty shady business and not very transparent of them.

My Go-To Tax Software

I use TurboTax Premier as I have used for many years. It is a great product that walks you through the whole process. It even checks and tells you your probability of being audited. It imports information from your last year's returns to save you time from having to reenter a lot of the same information every year. The best feature is the ability to import investment information from your broker so you don't miss out on any nuanced information that have tax implications from your various investments.

This was my first time using the software instead of online and it wasn't too bad. I could not figure out how to upload PDF copies of my information. I tried searching for it but was unable to find it.

it works fine. except the fillin's should pick values from previous entries. Fillins are name, address, email, phone

Higher price TurboTax, but quality isn't good

Overall, TurboTax 2024 worked. But, I can't print my return on Intel iMac for some reason. I had to install TurboTax on M4 Mac Mini and have TurboTax print a pdf copy there. Even on M4 Mac Mini, the first time on print cause the TurboTax 2024 to crashed. Very disappointed on quality control of this software on 2024 version.

It was hard to use. I've been using this product since 2010 and this has been the most difficult time I've had. I think they want you to purchase the advice expert.

Carry over values

I use TurboTax year after year, so obviously I'm happy with the product overall. I go through the form using the "Guide Me" process. There are several times when the questions ask me if I have any carryover values from previous years. When it is asking me that question, it should also say something like "We imported a carryover value of $(xx) from your 2023 return" when it has done so. If I say yes to the question, the next screen typically tells me that information, but what would it do if I said no? I shouldn't have to look at my previous year's tax return to answer a question that the software already knows.
